UV Rays and SPF
Is your skin susceptible to Burns? Or do you Tan unwantingly! If so, join the band. Due to the continuous depletion of the ozone layer the skin is directly exposed to even harsher Ultra Violet Rays from the sun. This hastens the process of Ageing, gives Wrinkles, Skinburns and may finally cause Skin Cancer. Over the past few years scientists have found an increase in the number of deaths occurring due to Skin Cancer. This was even true for people who used Sun Proteciton Formulas (SPF). On further study it was found that the sun emits 2 different Ultra Violet Rays (UVA and UVB). UVB would cause Sunburns, while UVA caused the Cancer.
Now it's high time you look for a good sunscreen, and if you are looking for one it must be real good. While all around the world there is talk of SPF, Indians should pay attention to the TPI factor.
At Kamal's we have a wide Range of Cosmetics that will prevent you from UVA and UVB rays while you are out in the sun. There are also products which help lighten tanned skin.
UVA
The new 'find' that rocked the Beauty World! In 1997 UVA Rays were detected through Sunrays and the properties found brought about different types of Skin Cancer. Many major brands quickly jumped the bandwagon and created formulas to protect the skin from the disease. Compounds like Avonbenzone (Parsol 1789), Titanium Dioxide, Zinc Oxide were found to protect and act as ideal ingredients for prevention of the disease. Many newer products are being discovered daily and better protection measures are being evolved.
UVB
Till a couple of years back cosmetic companies were aware of this part of the spectrum and created excellent products to counter the rays and protect oneself from being sunburnt. Major brands have been selling their products within the limits of SPF10 to SPF45.
The 'TPI' Factor
SPF is a measure of Burn Factor, which is a resultant of UVB Rays. Indian skin types do not generally get sunburnt, but tan profusely, hence the most relevant feature of the Sun Tan Protection which measures the effect of UVA and UVB ( mainly UVA ) and is calculated as TPI, Tan Protection Index. The TPI is therefore a measure of Tan Protection when evaluated as against unprotected skin. The higher the TPI number the better the efficiency of the product in proving the Tan Protection.
Reaction Of The Sun On Different Skin Types
All around the world people are worried about their Skin Colour. They consider themselves to be either too Fair or too Dark. The Fairer lot use Tanning Lotions while the remaining few are into fairness creams. The below chart gives a comparative study on different Skin Types and the effect of the Sun on them.
